The Story:
Throughout history, sailing has been instrumental in helping civilizations to develop into thriving nations. Allowing for greater and faster mobility, sailboats have been used for transport, trade and exploration.
Through the centuries, sailing was largely an occupation for the privileged classes. It was not until the 17th Century that the art of sailing first became a sport in Holland. In 1660, the Dutch presented a yacht to Charles II, which introduced and ultimately popularized the sport in England, eventually spreading to the American colonies.
From dinghy to sloop, sailing today can be enjoyed by anyone on any scale. Our vase celebrates the sport with a colorful regatta in full sail racing on a perfect day.
